Ongoing Programs and Services
Weekly Patient Support Group:
Women with breast cancer come together each week to discuss their thoughts and feelings about their diagnosis and the impact it has had on their lives. They exchange information, help each other problem-solve, and provide one another with emotional support. The group is facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker and is held nine months out of the year.
Breast Cancer Education Updates:
An audience of patients and family members ask questions of an organized panel of medical experts. Every discipline involved with breast cancer treatment is represented. This type of panel discussion provides patients with the most accurate and up-to-date information available specifically related to breast health and disease. These education updates are usually held twice per year.
Annual Wellness Retreat:
"Summer Serenity" is designed to introduce women to unique coping strategies they might not have previously used. Credible and compassionate professionals skilled in a variety of modalities such as yoga, art therapy, meditation, humor, etc., lead one hour workshops during this half day retreat in August. After experiencing the positive effect of some of these therapies, a healthy lunch is provided.
Patient Information Kits:
New patients may receive a folder of information with helpful brochures and pamphlets. These bulletins will encourage the patient to take control of this experience by arming them with knowledge. This kit usually contains a treatment journal to assist patients in organizing their appointment schedules, medical contacts, and most importantly, their questions.
Free Wig and Post Surgical Bras:
A nice selection of synthetic wigs are available for patients to choose from in order to help them prepare for the loss of their hair due to chemotherapy treatments. Women are fitted with a wig of their liking in a relaxed atmosphere by a survivor volunteer. Post surgical bras are also available.
